牙齒 是脊椎動物口中鈣化的層狀結構。牙齒的主要剛性成分是牙釉質和牙本質。牙釉質是人體內硬的物質，牙本質比骨頭硬，但比牙釉質軟。對牙齒的力學性質進行研究，了解其在體內的結構功能、病理學對牙齒力學及相關臨床問題的影響、新型牙齒修復材料的開發和牙齒生理學的研究。

Teeth are calcified, layered structures in the mouths of vertebrates. The main rigid constituents of the tooth are the enamel and dentin. The enamel is the hardest material in the body and dentin is harder than bone but softer than enamel. The mechanical properties of teeth are studied to learn about: its structural function in the body, the effects of pathologies in tooth mechanics and related clinical issues, development of new tooth reconstruction material and research in tooth physiology.
